Programming / Upcoming Events

With programming nearly every week, SAJE is one of the most active religious RSOs on campus (you can also grab this calendar on Facebook):

Some of our programming for 2013-14:
  • Study and Slice Learning: Drop in and study a Jewish text with friends while eating free kosher pizza! No prior Jewish or Hebrew background necessary; we'll pair you with an appropriate learning mentor and book. Midweek evenings, Hillel, 1-2x/qr
  • Student-Led Text Studies: Critically explore a piece of Jewish literature. Snacks and/or dinner are provided. Midweek evenings, Hillel, 2-3x/qr
  • Scholar-in-Residence Weekends: Spend a Shabbat with one of the North Side's many young Jewish scholars. Two-three lectures and expanded meals at Hillel. Fri-Sat, Hillel, 1-2x/qr
  • Academic Lecture Series: Academic lectures from professors at the Chicago Center for Jewish Studies and other Chicagoland Jewish Studies faculty, targeted to a broad student audience. Catered dinner. Wed/Thurs evening, Rosenwald 405, 1x/qr
  • Holiday Programming: Dinner parties for the Jewish holidays. This year, that includes a:
    • Chanukah Study Break with latkes and a public candle lighting
    • traditional Purim Seudah
    • Passover Study Break with matzo brie
    • Shavuot Late-night Learning with ice cream

We also provide the resources such as room reservations to visiting Jewish scholars and educational groups, and work to make CCJS events more visible and accessible to undergraduate students.

These are all programs from previous student requests that we've been fortunate to repeat this year, but we still have space for more! If you have an idea and/or would like to help implement one, please contact us.
