Hi, Everyone! Hope you had a good weekend.
While we generally don't promote events we don't plan, we think it's important to highlight two upcoming events from the Chicago Center for Jewish Studies.
For those of you who don't know, the CCJS is (in their own words) "an inter-divisional center [...] whose aim is to nurture dialogue among the many disciplines, scholars, and students engaged in Jewish Studies at the University". Their programming makes a great complement to that which we offer, but is rarely advertised or geared to undergraduate students.
One of our goals this year is to work with CCJS to make their programming more accessible to students in all schools of the University, but don't count on us alone. If you're interested in Jewish thought (and, as you're on this listhost, you presumably are), come to the CCJS Student/Faculty Reception Thursday 4:30-6:30. They're there specifically to answer your questions and get your input (and they're serving dinner to boot).
CCJS has lectures and events nearly every week, but we'd just like to bring one them (by CCJS's request) to your attention.
Joseph Cedar, the award-winning Israeli director and screenwriter, is coming to UChicago as part of Chicago Humanities Day next weekend. Renowned for his incisive commentary on Israeli society, and a practicing Jew, this is a rare opportunity to explore the intersection of Judaism, Israel, and the arts. The Chicago Center for Jewish Studies and its co-sponsors are going out of their way to give all of us time with Joseph Cedar - see the schedule below the solid line and make an effort to come to something!
Hope to see you there,
Avi Levin
