Welcome to fifth week!
This week, we are looking forward to the third Politics and Judaism lecture!
It will be on Thursday, May 2nd at 7 pm in Rosenwald 405.
Professor Julie Cooper, of the Political Science Department, will be giving a lecture on "Spinoza and Modern Thought". Off the top of my head, this lecture will be relevant to: Jews, political science majors, philosophy majors, people interested in radical thought, and those of us curious about the most famous case of banishment in Jewish history. I'm certain you all fit into at least one of those categories, so I'm equally certain that you'll all be there. Studying for exams before 10 pm is for the weak and/or overly responsible.
Looking to next week, Challah for Hunger will be meeting on Wednesday and Thursday in Hillel. We also hope to have another class with Rabbi Blaustein. Details to follow in next week's newsletter.
Finally, we are working on a weekly Parashat HaShavua group. If you are interested, please e-mail me at maxineberman@uchicago.edu. We hope to find a time that works for as many people as possible. (So far, 5:45 pm on Friday and 3 am on Tuesday have been rejected… not sure which was more unrealistic.)
And this week's parasha is Behar-Bechukotai.
Best,
Maxine
SAJE Secretary
P.S. As a note of explanation, SAJE found an English major (me), and logically enlisted her as secretary, so I will be taking over newsletter duties from Tova.
