[saje] Wendy Amsellem and Our New Chavruta Program!

Hey SAJE-nikim,

Tomorrow, please join us at 6:30 pm at Hillel for a class on "Letters Flying Upward: R. Chaninah ben Teradion and the Crafting of a Rabbinic Legend" with Wendy Amsellem of Drisha!  A light dinner of bagels and fruit will be provided. There will also be an egalitarian mincha/maariv service.

Wendy Amsellem is the Director of the Drisha Institute's July College Kollel for women and a full time faculty member. She is the former Director of the Dr. Beth Samuels High School Program and a graduate of the Drisha Scholars Circle and high school programs. She is pursuing a PhD in Judaic Studies at New York University and has a BA in History and Literature from Harvard University.

If you are coming and would be willing to count yourself as part of an egalitarian minyan, please e-mail Avital at avitalmorris@gmail.com to let her know. Thank you!

New SAJE Partner Learning Program!

This quarter, moving in to next year, SAJE is excited to facilitate and sponsor a Chavruta Program. Chavrutas are a traditional mode of Jewish learning where two individuals study a text (often Talmud, but you can do whatever) together. This is a really great way to learn and think, and we know many of you have expressed interest in doing partner-learning in the past.

We would like to start compiling a list of people who are interested in doing this program this quarter and/or next year. Please email board member Ariel Aiash (aiash@uchicago.edu) with your name and what you are interested in studying and he will match you with a partner. If you already have a partner in mind, then email him your chavruta and we will add you to the list. SAJE is pleased to offer snacks to supplement this Jewish learning!
Best,
Maxine
