Fourth Week with SAJE!

Hey SAJE,

Lots of stuff going on this week!

First up, we are co-sponsoring a workshop with the Center for Jewish Studies on Kiryas Joel, titled "A Hasidic Municipality in New York: As American As Apple Pie?" The talk will be delivered by Professor David Myers, chair of the History Department at UCLA. Sounds super interesting—it's at 4 pm on Tuesday in Swift 106.

And because one lecture really isn't good enough, we're also hosting Rabbi Joel Alter, Dean of Admissions at JTS, for a dinner and talk on "The Gift of Intelligence: A Jewish take on what is and isn't ours to know". Dinner's at 5:30, lecture's at 6:00, all on Wednesday of this week, in Hillel.

And never fear, stalwart SAJE events also return. Challah 4 Hunger is on for this week! We're making dough at 7 on Wednesday, braiding it at 7 on Thursday, and selling it at 11:30 (am!) on Friday. Dough-making/braiding's in Hillel, selling's in the Reynolds Club. Hope to see you there!

And finally, Parashat HaShavua's back! We'll be taking a look at Chayei Sarah. We had some nice debate going on last week—come add your critical lenses to our discussion! (Your Secretary is, indeed, enough of a dork to mean that sentence sincerely.) Torah and Ben & Jerry's, 8:30 on Thursday, in Hillel.

Best,
Maxine
SAJE Secretary

P.S. I'm attaching the flier for the Myers event, in case you'd like to take a look at it.
