The final SAJE event of the year is tomorrow!
The Ten Commandments: Between Veneration and Blasphemy
Ezra Blaustein
Monday, June 1
630-8pm
5715 S Woodlawn Ave, Hillel
The Ten Commandments make up the public revelation of the Torah at Sinai, and as such, they have long held a special place in Jewish literature, liturgy, and practice. Yet this reverence is matched by an equally long history of rabbinic discomfort with this apparent favoring of one section of the Torah over the rest of it. In this post-Shavuot shiur, we will go through the history of this controversy surrounding the Ten Commandments, which begins with the Talmud and continues through contemporary halakhic sources.
Ezra Blaustein is a third-year PhD candidate at UChicago Divinity School, studying medieval Jewish history. He is an alum of the Tikvah Fellowship and Yeshiva University's rabbinate program, and originally from the DC area.
Fresh panini will be served! Please RSVP to saje@uchicago.edu or at the Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/1440860886215545/.
Can't wait to see you all!
